Dr. Jian Jin

Dr. Jian Jin
is focusing on development of advanced methods and technologies to lower PEM electro lyzer costs. Previously, he was the VP R&D of H2U technologies Inc, which was established based on technologies Dr. Jin’s team developed for JCAP project at Caltect. At H2U, Dr. Jin developed its PEM electrolyzer technologies, and demonstrated its 200kw capability.

Jian was a group leader, staff scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and visiting professor at Caltech during his JCAP time. Dr. Jin built and led the High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) team, established its technical foundations and capabilities, invented critically important and en abling technologies, all now licensed to H2U. At JCAP, Dr. Jin had also served as the lead of its proto type project, developing various solar fuel devices, including solar driving electrolyzer. During his 20 years at LBNL, Jian operated as an independent scientist, with freedom to identify and create multidis cipline programs, to address major challenges of sciences and technologies. Some impact innovations of Dr. Jin include development of the first prototype capillary array DNA sequencer, enabled the com pletion of the Human Genome Project; the high throughput protein crystallization and screening sys tems (licensed to Syrrx, Inc.); multiple high throughput drug screening and systems biology systems for academic and industry partners; invented a phase contrast enhancement technique for electron microscopy (licensed to FEI). At Quantum Dot Co, Dr. Jin, as a principal scientist and project lead, de veloped its platform QbeatTM technology, using optical property of quantum dots to create spectrally encoded beats for multiplexed biological assays. He also designed AI machine learning based software and guided the manufacture and fabrication of integrated systems by Panasonic to full commercializa tion.

Dr. Jian Jin graduated from Sichuan University, China with BS in physics and MS, received his Ph. D degree in Atomic Physics from Texas A&M University. He was recruited by LBNL as a postdoc, became a career staff scientist in 1996 and group leader in 2001.
